What is an MRI?

MRI-1

Magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, uses radio waves and strong magnets to create non-invasive images of your body to differentiate between fat, water, muscle, and other soft tissue.

MRIs are especially useful when your doctor needs a closer look at your brain, spine, or joints because they provide a very clear image. This allows physicians an easier way to find medical diagnoses for patients.

Doctors often use these tests when they need more information than a traditional x-ray or CT scan. Since MRI tests do not use x-rays, it also doesn’t expose you to any radiation.
