What is a MRI Scan?

Magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, uses radio waves and strong magnets to create images of your body. MRI tests are non-invasive and give your doctor a very clear image. An MRI test does not use x-rays, so it doesn’t expose you to any radiation.

Available MRI Scans:

  • MRI/MRA Brain
  • MRI/MRA Neck
  • MRI Spine
  • MRI Abdomen
  • MRI Pelvis
  • MRI Upper and Lower Extremities*

*Excludes Arthrogram studies

Magnetic Resonance Angiography, or MRA Scans are also available.

When is MRI used?

MRI images are able to differentiate between fat, water, muscle, and other soft tissue. Because of this detail, MRIs are often used if your doctor needs more information than a traditional x-ray or CT scan. MRIs are especially useful when your doctor needs a closer look at your brain, spine, or joints.

How much does it cost?

All Tellica locations offer the same flat rate pricing for imaging so you always know what to expect. Tellica MRI scans cost $550 (or less with some insurances). For comparison, the cost of an MRI in a hospital setting varies widely, typically costing you between $500 and $4,000.**

**Let’s level set. Sometimes getting imaging done in a hospital makes sense, even if the cost is higher. For example, in emergency situations or for more complex imaging not provided at Tellica, a hospital may be your best bet.
