A Breast MRI is a specialized MRI scan that focuses on breast tissue. It's used in conjunction with other diagnostic techniques, such as mammograms, to provide a more comprehensive evaluation of breast health.
During the scan, contrast dye might be injected into a vein to enhance the visibility of certain tissues.
Breast MRI is a valuable tool for various purposes in women's health:
- Screening for high-risk women
- Evaluating suspicious findings from mammograms
- Assessing the extent of known breast cancer
Tellica Imaging offers both abbreviated and full breast MRIs at several of our facilities. For women with dense breast tissue, people with augmentation, and those with a family history of breast cancer, an MRI can reveal details that might not be detected solely on mammograms. Breast MRI can sometimes reveal additional lesions not visible on mammograms, leading to earlier diagnosis and treatment.
Please note that abbreviated breast MRIs or fast breast MRIs are traditionally a cash pay procedure as health insurance may not cover this exam.
